CVE-2011-1010

Publication date 1 March 2011

Last updated 24 July 2024

Ubuntu priority

Buffer overflow in the mac_partition function in fs/partitions/mac.c in the Linux kernel before 2.6.37.2 allows local users to cause a denial of service (panic) or possibly have unspecified other impact via a malformed Mac OS partition table.

From the Ubuntu Security Team

Timo Warns discovered that MAC partition parsing routines did not correctly calculate block counts. A local attacker with physical access could plug in a specially crafted block device to crash the system or potentially gain root privileges.
