The industrial internet of things market (IIoT) is estimated to reach US$ 195.47bn by 2022 according to Markets and Markets. A number of companies in this sector recognise the need to modernise their operations – DE.OL, an Italian company who design and manufacture hydraulic cylinders are one of these. Working with TechnoSec, an Italian IIoT start up specialising in M2M technologies, and Ubuntu, DE.OL were able to transition to a smart factory.
Highlights:
- DE.OL transformed its predictive maintenance approach to optimise efficiency but without having to replace legacy machinery.
- In one instance, DE.OL averted an oil pump breakdown which would have cost the company €12,000 in downtime and repair bills had they not adopted TechnoSec’s IIoT platform and Ubuntu Core.
- Ubuntu Core decreases time to deployment for TechnoSec and opens them up to a community of developers to share knowledge and fix bugs.
